10 Drummers, 10 Cookies, 10 Pounds... Whatever.

I may or may not have a sweet tooth. Let's just say my buddy Sugar and I are pretty good friends. In fact, let's include chocolate, sweets, cupcakes, cookies, fudge....let's be honest, I've got it bad. (So bad I'm using an adjective instead of an adverb.) And these cookies? They're my very favorite.

If Heaven consisted of eating these every day, all day for eternity and nothing else...I would be content.

The recipe comes from this excellent cookbook:

Funny story: I LOVE this cookbook. It got me through high school. (I bake when I’m stressed, don’t judge.) And I really, really wanted it here at school with me, seeing as I am the only one in the family that ever used it – but I could. Not. Find. It. I looked everywhere, but it was Gone with a capital G. My mother, however, had a horrible hunch as to what had happened to it: after moving out of our house at the end of the summer, my mother had taken a huge box of old books to a use bookstore…and she just knew that this guy had gone with. As soon as she realized this, she returned to the bookstore to try to find it…and if not it, then hopefully the same one. But lo and behold, it was like God Himself had hidden it there, and no one had bought it!

Thank you, God. And St. Anthony (you’re the bomb).

So now that I have my precious cookbook back, I’m going to share the best cookie recipe ever with you. Here’s what the page looks like in the book (my family has always written in our cookbooks about what was good or not, when we cooked/baked it, etc.):

As you can see, it’s well-loved. But here’s an easier-to-read version (with tips!) with my personal touches on it:

So bake them. Eat them. Love them. Die happy.

P.S. You and your friends/family/roomies may or may not eat the entire batch before the cookies have time to cool down. Not like I’m speaking from experience or anything.

Eleven Pipers Piping

Patience. This is my third time writing this post.

So, did you know that the 12 Days of Christmas was written as a catechism song? Each day represents a biblical number (one baby Jesus, four Gospels, five books of the Pentateuch, etc.). Even though the twelve days of Christmas are technically those between the 25th and Epiphany on the 2nd, on our Christmas countdown we're on day eleven. Today's eleven pipers piping represents the eleven faithful disciples. And as Young Life leaders, we do our best to follow Jesus in all things - like the apostles. And as we recently welcomed ten new YL leaders, I thought this would be a great time to share them with the interwebs! Here are some team pictures from Commissioning last Sunday - new leaders are in red.

Sun Prairie Young Life & Wyldlife:

Front: Mike, Lauren, Melissa, Ashley, Grace, Callie, Katherine, Nicole. Back: Molly, Cecily, Dan, Tyler, Patrick, & Dan. Plus Maggie who couldn't make it!

Mount Horeb Young Life & Wyldlife:

Front: Jessica, Laura, Erin, Claire. Back: Al, Sarah, Brandon, Nate, Matt, Sue, Kellen.

Verona Wyldlife (& Soon-to-be Young Life!): no picture yet. (!? How did we not manage to grab a picture of you all?!) However, the new leaders commissioned there were Emily K, Emily Q, & Tyler. Their teammates, pictured here from last May, are front: Ethan, Abbie, Sarah, Danielle, Rhyo; back: Quinn, Alex, Ricardo, Jared, Michael, & Chris.

What's so great about Young Life in Dane County is that it is so big, we're missing a ton of leaders on these lists (like both Becky - who's in SPWL- and I -Young Life College - for starters)! I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such a God-centered community.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16

12 Days Til Christmas

12
Yes, that's right folks. 12 days until the big day we call Christmas!
As I was thinking about the number 12, I realized that this number is very special. Let me tell you why.....
We have had 12 girls live in 205! For the past three semesters we have had the precious gift of wonderful girls who we have been able to build a great community with. We have been so blessed by great friendship. Together we have made a house and home. This post goes out to my sisters in Christ and the wonderful semesters we have had. Love you girls!
There you have it. 12 beautiful ladies all bringing so much joy, laughter, and love into this house! Love 205 <3

Pure Awesomeness

I thought it was time for another post, but I wasn't sure what to talk about. Then I looked around the room and it hit me....yes, a little blast from the past would be sufficient!
Curious yet??? Afraid that it might be something embarrassing about you?
Well, wait no longer. Check out this little piece of the past

Haaha. We called this the couch...wait for it....coaster!
Last spring we were in the middle of transferring furniture. Taking the old ones out and bringing the new ones in. But why not have a little fun with a room full of couches before putting the room back together??

So, as I sit on the couch, I reminisce in the memory of when we had furniture everywhere you stepped upstairs last year.
